I think by now we’ve probably all heard how very vital good sleep is to our health & well being. If not, I highly suggest you tip that rock over that you’ve been living under.
Not only does good sleep feel wonderful, but it’s NECESSARY for our hormones, muscle & tissue repair… & for our sanity (& for that of those around us).
Catching our Z’s also helps us keep our immune systems healthy, keep cortisol levels under control, as well as aiding in weight-loss efforts.
Plus, did I mention that if you’re like me you’re a whole lot more fun to be around if you’ve gotten your beauty rest?
Wait – but, what if you’re one of those people that just can’t fall asleep? Are you destined to lay awake every night wondering about the effects it’s having on your long-term health?
No way!! I have a few simple suggestions for you to help you catch those Z’s:
Count sheepTry going to bed a bit earlier & reading a book you enjoy. It helps me wind down, relax, & it makes my eyes tired (I do this every night).- Take a magnesium supplement about a half hour before bed. It helps relax your muscles, plus keeps you regular.
I take magnesium glycinate capsules because they’re gentle on you & don’t cause a laxative effect like magnesium citrate can.
- Try meditating or doing some light yoga stretches shortly before bed.
- Avoid too many electronics & blue light (from tv & laptops, etc) – it can help disrupt sleep patterns. Try using a dimming app if you need to use electronics, or the orange glasses that block the rays.
- Take some time to pamper yourself. I like to oil cleanse my face & steam it, which I find relaxing before bed.
- Tea. I’m in love with the YourTea brand of Sleep Tea. It’s been my nightly ritual. I have a hot mug of it about a half hour to an hour before bed & I swear it helps me relax & fall asleep quicker. It’s all natural & such a great solution! Love it!
I hope that these natural sleep tips help those of you who struggle with getting good sleep. I think it’s a matter of relaxing your mind & body, along with finding what works for you. Most nights I fall asleep ok, but with the addition of the Sleep Tea I am in dreamland much sooner.
